USEFUL IN PRACTICE / THE PRODUCTION DESK

AI video tools.
A real product.
A clearer story.

Compare Cardboard, Vyra, Voyager and Palette by the work you need to finish. Then leave with a brief you can actually use.

01 / THE PROBLEM“Let me show you
the part that matters.”
02 / THE PROOFA real screen.
A useful task.
A visible result.
03 / THE NEXT STEPGive the viewer
somewhere to go. ↗

Editorial storyboard, not a software interface.

01 / CHOOSE THE JOB

Start with the footage
you have.

If the feature already works, capture the actual interface. If the story needs supporting visuals, plan those separately. These tools overlap, so use the categories as starting points for a trial.

VYRA / RECORDED FOOTAGE

Edit the footage you already recorded.

Vyra centers its pitch on turning uploaded footage into an edit through chat. Start with a screen recording and a founder introduction.

My first trial question

Can you correct a caption and change the opening without rebuilding the edit?

CARDBOARD / RECORDED FOOTAGE

Direct a first cut. Then revise it.

Cardboard describes an editable first cut built from prompts, footage, or both, with timeline revisions and link-based feedback.

My first trial question

Can the next reviewer find the change, comment on it, and approve the exported result?

VOYAGER / CREATIVE WORKFLOW

Coordinate a broader creative workflow.

Voyager positions itself as a harness for agents working with creative tools. Consider it when the job spans several production steps.

My first trial question

Which applications, assets, provider accounts and human decisions does your specific workflow need?

PALETTE / CREATIVE WORKFLOW

Develop media across formats.

Palette describes a multimodal studio for moving from source material to video, visuals and structured content in one conversation.

My first trial question

Can a revision preserve your approved message and visual direction across the formats you need?

02 / ASK A BETTER COMPARISON QUESTION

Cardboard or Vyra?
Try the same messy recording.

Both describe editing through conversation. Give each the same consented source clips, audience, duration and requested change. Review the first cut, then ask for a different opening and a corrected caption. The useful difference is how much work remains before you can publish.

01

First cut

Does it select the right moment, keep the UI legible and preserve what the product actually did?

02

Revision

Can you fix a detail without losing the approved scenes? Record any manual cleanup.

03

Finished cost

Include the plan, generation attempts, licensed media, review time and final export requirements.

Voyager and Palette may deserve a separate trial when the project starts before the edit: developing supporting assets, coordinating tools or adapting an idea across formats. Follow the source links above for current access and plan terms.

03 / FREE PRODUCT VIDEO BRIEF

Know what you’re making
before you open an editor.

This planner assembles your answers into a production brief. It runs in this page and does not generate video, call an AI service or upload files. Download your brief before leaving.

FOR AI & SAAS TEAMS

Want someone to
shape the story?

I create task-focused software tutorials, interactive explainers and launch content. Bring the product and the customer problem. We’ll agree on a useful scope, evidence and usage rights.

The linked Field Notes are independent editorial examples. Commissioned work and sponsored distribution are scoped separately.

BEFORE YOU CHOOSE

A few useful distinctions.

Which AI video editor is best for a SaaS product demo?

The first requirement is accurate product evidence. Shortlist tools that can use your actual screen recording, then compare revision control, captions, legibility and export. This guide offers trial questions, not a tested winner.

Is an AI video generator the same as a video editor?

Generation creates media; editing selects and arranges it. A product demo can need both, but generated imagery should not stand in for a feature you have not shown working.

Are these tools free?

Access, free allowances, subscriptions and provider costs can change. Check each company’s current plan terms. The comparison and brief planner on this page are free to use.

Can I use the brief without subscribing?

Yes. Build, copy and download it here. The email list below is optional and shares future software notes and resources.
