Meta VR Glasses: price, release date, specs and practical tradeoffs
A lighter device on your face changes the proposition. The tether, field of view and unfinished software still matter.
Documentation-led analysis, not a hands-on review. Availability and announced US prices are dated; taxes, lenses and regional offers can differ. Practical examples below are proposed evaluations, not measured results.
Meta VR Glasses are planned for spring 2027 at $1,299.99 in the US. The approximately 100-gram figure refers to the glasses. A tethered puck carries the compute, storage and battery.

What are they for?
The proposition is a wearable screen for media and work, with less weight on the face. It is a different purchase from audio glasses or a wearable camera. If your goal is answering calls while walking, a virtual workspace is a much larger solution than the task requires.

What changes compared with Quest?
Meta’s developer guidance says the glasses share Quest’s operating system, Store and SDKs. Touch Plus controllers are supported but sold separately. Meta gives an approximate field of view of 70 by 66 degrees, compared with 110 by 96 on Quest 3. It describes VR Glasses as an addition to its lineup.

Our interpretation: a smaller field of view can matter even if text is easier to read. A spreadsheet and reference document may be useful together without filling your peripheral vision. A game whose appeal depends on immersion may make that tradeoff feel very different. Shared software infrastructure also does not prove every game will be equally convenient without controllers.
Why move the computer into a puck?
Separating the components changes where you carry the weight. For seated work, that could be a reasonable bargain. For moving between rooms, it introduces a cable and another object to manage. Evaluate the whole arrangement, including pocket placement, cable routing and charging, instead of treating face weight as total system weight.
Could they be useful for work?
Meta describes private virtual screens and a flat-surface keyboard and touchpad. That suggests a possible use on a small desk or while traveling. It does not establish that prolonged typing is comfortable, that your employer’s software is supported, or that your normal application shortcuts work as expected.

Proposed trial: edit one real document using non-sensitive sample content for 30 minutes. Keep a reference page open beside it. Move between windows, correct mistakes, copy a table and join a test call. Record whether the display and input help you finish, along with neck comfort, eye comfort and interruptions.
Entertainment and gaming
Meta promises more than 75 hand-controlled games at launch and Xbox Cloud Gaming support. Its media announcement includes IMAX Enhanced certification and streaming partnerships. Treat catalog availability, subscriptions and regional access as separate checks from buying the hardware.

What remains to be checked before buying?
- Computer compatibility: confirm the exact Mac or Windows connection method, supported operating systems and application restrictions. This guide does not independently establish them.
- Total ownership cost: add any needed lenses, controllers, content subscriptions and accessories to the announced price.
- Working endurance: a media-playback battery claim is not a benchmark for meetings or multitasking.
- Fit and readability: try the exact text sizes and window arrangements you need, rather than only watching a cinema demo.
For a buyer who needs a workspace now, a product arriving in 2027 cannot solve today’s problem. For someone exploring future travel equipment, it is worth following final hardware tests.
